Independent Materia provide other boosts that can be simple stat increases, or can change the way a character can be used (such as Counter Attack). Each Materia is upgradeable through AP dropped by enemies, upgrading the abilities they provide, or unlocking new ones; once a Materia is mastered, it is duplicated and a new base Materia is created, ready to be equipped and upgraded.

Is this 22-year-old game worth your time? Absolutely. There’s a reason why it’s being re-released for cutting-edge systems, and if you’re willing to engage with its idiosyncrasies, old-school mechanics and graphics, and interface oddities, there’s a frankly wonderful story that will grab you while also allowing you to understand how many other games it has influenced.

The commands change as the game progresses, and are dependent on the characters in the player's party and their equipment. Commands include attacking with a weapon, casting magic, using items, summoning monsters, and other actions that either damage the enemy or aid the player characters. Final Fantasy VII also features powerful, character-specific commands called Limit Breaks, which can be used only after a special gauge is charged by taking enemy attacks. How closely it follows the story of the original and how far it will take us remains to be seen, but there's already plenty of speculation already. With every extended look we get, there's something new to tuck into, and FF7R is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated upcoming PS5 games of this year, especially as one of the new games for 2024 coming in the next few weeks.

HOLY COW. The tone of this game is SHOCKINGLY bizarre. I'm literally astonished Square made this game. The tone of the game is almost a PARODY of Final Fantasy 7. As someone who doesn't love 7, I'm actually alright with the parody tone, but if they took this tone with my beloved 6 or 4, I would be very upset and I'm shocked more FF7 fans don't hate this.

The party pursues Sephiroth across the Planet, but they do not search alone, as Rufus also wants to take Sephiroth in and has dispatched the Turks, a group of Shinra special operatives, to carry out the task. The party runs into the Turks several times, and in Gold Saucer they meet Cait Sith, a fortune teller cat robot, who joins them. Barret must confront his past as they return to the sitio of his former home town, and in Cosmo Canyon Red XIII intends to leave the party, but changes his mind upon discovering the truth of his father whom he had thought final fantasy 7 remake cowardly, resolving to protect the planet by continuing to travel with Cloud and his friends.

The story and scenario writer, Nojima, also added that stopping the game at the end of Midgar would also allow for an adequate amount of story scenarios to be put in as well.
